Job Description


The Wintel Engineer performs Architecture and Engineering tasks to provide technical support, create POC environments, define standards, provide future infrastructure Engineering documentation within the Wintel Server technology discipline.

Duties include, but not limited to;
  • Responsible for design, development, analysis and support of Windows Server Operating Systems and Associated Technologies
  • Creates and maintains engineering documentation, including Wintel Server Standards & Operating Policies, for the current and future infrastructure environment
  • Provide guidance to the outsource provider for Wintel technologies and operating model
  • Provide support (Tier 3/4), as needed, within the Wintel Server Technologies discipline internally with BMC departments and externally (outsource provider & other vendors)
  • Collaborate with BMC’s CyberSecurity team to develop and maintain Wintel Security Standards, Policies and Operating Procedures

Core Accountabilities:

Up to ten of principle responsibilities with end results (the “what”) aimed at driving strategic direction or overall mission, I.e.: market, financial, customer satisfaction (external delivery and quality) productivity (continuous improvement), and innovation/flexibility.  Framed in relation to the SMART model for objective setting: specific, measurable, attainable, realistic and time-bound.

% of time      (10% minimum)
  • Provides multi-discipline technical support for BMC’s Physical and Virtual Wintel Server Technologies
  • Performs continuous reviews of system performance and procedures ensuring quality service delivery, customer satisfaction and efficiency
  • Provides insights to BMC Infrastructure team of current Operations and enhancement opportunities
  • Perform as liaison between BMC and outsource providers facilitating knowledge transfer, guidance and BMC oversight
  • Performs Technology POC’s and provides recommendations for path forward
  • Performs Root Cause Analysis (RCA) of Wintel Server Incidents and Problems

SKILLS / EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: The prerequisite job-related qualifications for this position, such as: education, technical background, industry and/or practice area exposure, product and/or service track record, staff development experience, administrative requirements, etc.
  • Must have 10+ Years’ experience within the Information Technology Industry.
  • Must have 8+ Years’ experience in design and support within the disciplines of MS Windows Server Technologies, including physical and virtual server technologies.
  • Minimum of some college (preferably a minimum of a Associates Degree) or equivalent experience
  • Very Strong Wintel Engineering, Administration and Troubleshooting skills including, but not limited to, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Virtual Server Technologies, Server Storage technologies, 2 & 3 tier Application architecture, Network protocols, VDI support, and Wintel Application installation.
  • Knowledge & some \ reasonable experience with standard networking principles and functionality.
  • Certifications a Plus, specifically MCSA, MSCE, VCP, VCAP, ITIL
  • Track record of success managing service delivery organizations, specifically outsourced services for an internal organization
