Overview of Role

We are seeking a highly motivated, self-starting Operations Analyst to join the Americas Operations team responsible for supporting an electronic broking division. The servers run on Red Hat Linux/Windows Server with a large scale global deployment. The successful candidate must be able to work independently while actively participating in a dynamic, global team. This position is well-suited for a person who wishes to be involved with many different aspects of technical support, which includes Red Hat Linux/Windows Server, storage, and advanced troubleshooting for all of the above. Other aspects of the role include:

  • Reviewing outstanding calls assigned to the group and working on action plans when needed to address and resolve customer, system and other related problems.

  • Project manage the deployment of EBS products.

  • When necessary, works with Account Managers and/or other groups to resolve any technical issues.

     

Principal Responsibilities & Accountabilities

  • Hands on systems administration, hardware configuration activities, and software installation and deployment activities

  • Write thorough technical documentation for use by Operations staff

  • 2nd-4th level on-call production support of worldwide Linux/Windows environments

  • Guide field staff with deployment of servers/desktops remotely

  • Willingness to work on site at various data centers during deployment

  • Demonstrate a clear understanding of operations and technical requirements

  • Uses various operation systems and utilities to verify correct system operation

  • Responds to client inquiries via Customer Support and/or our Global Technical Control Centre concerning systems operation and diagnoses system hardware, software, and operator problems

  • Recommend and follow-up on remedial actions to correct problems

  • Coordinate activities with help desk, network services, or other information systems groups

  • Provide updates, status, and completion information to manager, problem request tracking system, and/or users, via voice mail, e-mail, or in-person communication

  • Provide 2nd level support for Field Service Engineers, and Customer Support

  • Provide level 2 application support

  • Take on additional duties and learns other skills as needed

  • Performs any and all other duties as assigned by management

 

Competencies

  • Excellent analytical, troubleshooting and problem solving skills

  • Comfortable with being hands-on with hardware

  • Ability to communicate with all levels of staff, both within IT and Business units

  • Strong documentation skills (using MS Word, Visio, Excel, PowerPoint)

  • Sound decision-making and communication skills

  • Willingness and ability to take initiative

  • Willingness to work as part of a team

  • Ability to work and resolve multiple problems/issues at the same time

  • Openness to stay current and learn new technologies

  • Ability to remain calm and work in a high-pressure environment

 

Professional/Technical Skills

  • Advanced scripting skills (bash, Perl and/or Python)

  • Strong understanding of LAN/WAN, TCP/IP and DNS

  • Storage configuration skills using standard Linux tools (disk partitioning, RAID configuration)

  • Knowledge of Windows Desktops (Windows XP and Windows 7)

  • Familiarity with ESX VMware virtualization is a plus

 

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in technical field such as computer science, engineering or science

  • Minimum of five years Linux or UNIX administration experience, Red Hat Linux preferred

  • Be able to work weekends in a 12 hour shift (6am – 6pm, 6pm – 6am)

  • Experience managing high frequency, low latency trading systems is a plus
