Job Description


OVERVIEW:

The Data Warehouse Solutions Architect is responsible for all activities related to the database system administration, architecture, data modeling, design and development of the Teradata Data Warehouse environment. This individual will translate complex business requirements into scalable technical solutions, provide comprehensive technical expertise in database technologies, determine project scope, and liaise with hardware vendors, business analysts, system administrators, and BI/application developers. We are seeking a motivated self-starter who must be able to work well both independently and with a project team to coordinate database system and infrastructure development. 

Required Skills

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Implement and maintain database security, create and maintain users/roles, and assign privileges.
  • Capacity planning for growth to support current and future needs.
  • Identify key thresholds and bottle necks which could impact system performance.
  • Optimize and performance tune queries.
  • Establish and maintain sound backup and disaster recovery policies and procedures.
  • Prepare detailed ETL specifications to design, code and test all SQL/BTEQ scripts and utilities.
  • Database design modeling and implementation to meet business objectives and the needs of BI/application enhancements and other project deliverables.
  • Project planning, estimating, approach definition and implementation planning.
  • Identify and recommend alternative solutions.
  • Maintain awareness of new developments in industry and processes.
  • Establish quality processes and standards to deliver stable and reliable solutions.
  • Participate in after-hours support rotation and perform duties in the data centers to support system upgrades or hardware problem resolutions.
  • Ability to install, configure and upgrade Teradata server hardware, software, and related products.

Required Experience

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Minimum 5-7 years’ experience as a DBA or similar role working with Teradata databases.
  • Teradata Certified Master certification a plus.
  • UNIX shell scripting, Teradata utilities experience required.
  • System administration for AIX, Linux SuSe, and NCR MPRAS a plus.
  • MS/SQL Server, Oracle database knowledge a plus
  • Windows developer experience a plus.
  • C++, Java, VB, or .NET coding a plus.
  • Experience with MicroStrategy a plus.
  • CRM experience a plus.
  • ETL/ELT tool knowledge required.
  • Control-M job automation tool experience preferred.
  • Experience with retail environment is strongly preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science or equivalent course work/job experience.

  • Perform database loads, backups and recoveries using Fastload, Multiload, ARC, NetVault, and NetBackup
  • Understanding of data modeling and use of modeling tools a plus, i.e. Erwin, Data Modeler
